New American Ambassador to Greece Meets with AHI

WASHINGTON, DC —The newly-confirmed American ambassador to Greece, Geoffrey Pyatt, met with representatives of the American Hellenic Institute on September 6, 2016, as part of his preparations before he departs for his new post.  The meeting took place at AHI’s Hellenic House.

“We greatly appreciated the opportunity to meet with Ambassador Pyatt,” AHI President Nick Larigakis said. “We welcomed the substantive and candid discussion we had on issues of importance to the community. We look forward to growing our relationship in the effort to strengthen U.S. relations with Greece and in the pursuit of our common goals and objectives.”

The discussion focused on a wide array of topics, including:  initiatives to strengthen U.S. relations with Greece, the FYROM name dispute issue, the Greek economy, and Greece’s important role as the United States’ key strategic NATO ally in southeast Europe and the eastern Mediterranean.

Amy Reichert, Greek desk officer, U.S. Department of State, accompanied the ambassador to the meeting.  AHI Legal Counsel Nicholas Karambelas and Legislative Director Georgea Polizos joined Larigakis at the meeting.

The American Hellenic Institute is a non-profit Greek American public policy center and think tank that works to strengthen relations between the United States and Greece and Cyprus, and within the Greek American community.
